APA PsycBooks MARC Records

The MARC records are standard MARC21 format as set forth by the Library of Congress, for use by librarians to load their electronic catalogs.

• 001: sequential control numbers for the records, unrelated to content
• 003: APA’s LC code (DcWaAPA)
• 005-008 control fields
• 020: ISBN
• 042: authentication code
• 050: LC call number
• 082: Dewey Decimal call number
• 245: title and author/editor
• 246: title
• 250: edition
• 260: publisher info
• 300: physical description
• 504: bibliography, etc. note
• 520: abstract
• 530: additional physical form available note
• 533: reproduction note
• 650 0: Library of Congress subject headings
• 650 2: medical (MeSH; NLM) subject headings
• 700: editor or author
• 776: additional physical form entry
• 856: APA’s Books web site, where there is information about the print book, as well as on-line ordering
• 935: APA PsycInfo book-level control number. This will match both the book-level APA PsycInfo record and the PDF file names (except for chapter numbers in place of the “000” extension)

We extensively field-tested sample data in this format with some librarians, and they had no problem parsing it and loading it into their systems.

Records are separated by hex1D format. The record separator is "\035", the field separator is "\036", and the subfield separator is "\037".
