APA Database Renaming – March 2020

APA Database Renaming

Dear Ovid Customer:

Our information provider, the American Psychological Association (APA), is changing their database naming convention to reflect APA’s new branding standards.

The new names of the APA database products are as follows:

  • APA PsycArticles®
  • APA PsycBooks®
  • APA PsycExtra®
  • APA PsycInfo®
  • APA PsycTests®

Following the request from the APA, Ovid will apply the renaming request to the Ovid database display and field guides that reference APA products by 10 March. The content of APA databases will not be impacted by these changes.

The APA recommends using the alternative name feature in your A-Z list, including a “formerly known as” descriptor, or adding a duplicate/cross-reference entry in your A-Z list as possible workarounds to support your communities through this change.

Ovid is also updating the APA citation style to APA Style 7th Edition for all Ovid databases. This change will format the DOI based on the recommendations of the DOI Foundation. For detailed information on the APA Style 7th edition, please check this guide.
Please note this change will be implemented for the APA databases first, and the other Ovid databases will follow soon after.

Feel free to contact Customer Support with any questions by sending an email to [email protected].
